Regional and State Competitions Offering Scholarship Funds for Juniors
The Central Region Competition was held for the
third year at the Wichita Kennel Club show in conjunction with the
Sunflower Cluster. Juniors from 15 states competed for Scholarship
funds. The criteria for eligibility is two wins in Open with Competition.
This years finals was judged by Peggy Beseil-McIlwaine. for a $1000
post-secondary education scholarship, with $250 scholarships awarded
to three Award of Merit winners. Two preliminary competitions were
judged by Kari Loken of Moville, IA and Rebecca I. Noe of Castle Rock,
CO.. Kaylee A. Brandon from Mayetta, KS, handling a West Highland
White Terrier, prevailed as the Top Junior Handler and Alexis Bach
(MO), Connor Black (TX), and Alexandra Romero (MO), were selected
as Award of Merit winners for the competition. The Wichita Kennel
Club, Salina Kennel Club, and Hutchinson Kennel Club, as the sponsoring
clubs for this competition, are committed to assisting Juniors in
their pursuit of excellence in the presentation of dogs. These three
clubs recognize the need to provide for the future educational requirements
of the young women and men entrusted with the future of the sport
of purebred dogs.

The Louisville Kennel Club held a Regional Competition
for the second year. The Top Junior received a $1,000 Scholarship
and Three Awards of Merit were each granted a $250 Scholarship offered
by the Kentuckiana Cluster. The Finals Judge for this years event
was Patty Keenan the preliminary classes were judged by Houston and
Toddie Clark. The Top Junior Award went to Grahm Swayze, with the
three award of merits.
