AKC Fetch Program

Planning a Fetch Test

Who Can Host a Fetch Test Event?

An AKC licensed or member club can host a fetch test or an AKC Fetch Judge.

AKC Fetch is an official AKC event. CGC Evaluators are eligible to become judges for AKC Fetch and host Fetch test events if they successfully complete the online training for AKC Fetch judges in Canine College.

Event Application

The Fetch Event Application should be submitted to AKC for approval.

If the host club/judge has two AKC Fetch tests on one day (e.g., one in the morning, one in the afternoon) or two tests on consecutive days (e.g., one on Saturday, one on Sunday), each test counts as a separate event and a separate Event application is needed. A host club or Fetch judge can hold no more than 12 Fetch events per year.

Assign a Fetch Judge

All AKC Fetch judges will appear in the AKC Judges Directory. To find a Fetch judge be sure to select the correct competition type found in the drop down and the state if known.

Event Committee

A minimum of five people are needed for the AKC Fetch event committee. Fetch judges cannot serve on an event committee for the event in which they are judging. The Event Committee is a group organized by the Chairperson of the event. The Chair appoints the Event Committee to:

  • *Address any misconduct complaints.
  • Meet and decide if a hearing is warranted.

*The event committee should be familiar with the Dealing with Misconduct booklet.

After a Fetch Test is Approved

Once a Fetch test is approved the event secretary and chairperson will be sent an email notification confirming the event has been approved. The host should then prepare and send a copy of the premium list to fetchinfo@akc.org.

Creating and Posting A Premium List

A Fetch premium list template is available for downloading. This is so AKC has a copy for their records. All approved events will appear in the online AKC event calendar. Host clubs and judges are encouraged to upload a copy of their premium to the online calendar. For directions on how to post your premium to the AKC online calendar, go here.

After a Fetch Test is Concluded

After a Fetch test has taken place, the judge must complete the online test summary form within 7 days.
