Oklahoma House Approves Changes to Breeder Law

(Tuesday, April 24, 2012)

On Monday, the Oklahoma House overwhelmingly approved Senate Bill 1919 by a vote of 86-1, which would make many positive changes to the state's commercial pet breeder law.

Thanks to the phone calls and e-mails sent by responsible Oklahoma pet breeders and dog owners, the House approved all amendments made by the House Agriculture, Wildlife, and Environment Committee that would create the new Commercial Pet Breeders Act of 2012 and help address some of the significant challenges with the current law. Read AKC's previous Legislative Alert for more information on Senate Bill 1919 and its companion House Bill 2921.

The measure is now expected to go back to the Senate for final approval. AKC Government Relations (AKC GR) will continue to provide more information as it becomes available.
