Highlights from the October 2006 Board Meeting

New York, NY – Highlights from the October 2006 meeting of the AKC Board of Directors are as follows:

  • The Swedish Vallhund is eligible for AKC registration, effective March 1, 2007, and to compete in the Herding Group effective June 27, 2007. There will be Open Registration for the breed through February 28, 2010.
  • The Giant Schnauzer, Standard Schnauzer and Greater Swiss Mountain Dog are able to participate in Herding Events for all titles, effective January 1, 2007.
  • The Bulagarian Republican Federacion of Cynology (BRFC) was added to the list of foreign registries with pedigrees acceptable for AKC registration.
  • Revisions to the German Wirehaired Pointer breed standard, as published in the AKC GAZETTE, were approved, effective January 1, 2007.
  • The Junior Showmanship Regulations were amended, effective January 1, 2007, to enable a club to offer both regular and limited competition at the same show.
  • The Board approved a National Agility Champion title, to be awarded to the overall winner of each jump height class at the AKC National Agility Championship trials. This is effective January 1, 2007.
  • The Beagle Field Trial Rules and Standard Procedures were amended, effective September 1, 2007, to require Two Couple Pack judges to attend a Beagle Field Trial seminar before accepting assignments.

The following delegates were approved:

  • John Shoemaker, Culver City, CA, to represent Toy Dog Breeders Association of Southern California
  • Marjorie A. Tuff, Freehold, NJ, to represent American Shetland Sheepdog Association
  • Burton J. Yamada, Blue Jay, CA, to represent Orange Empire Dog Club
