American Kennel Club Offers Tips For Building A Happy Relationship With Your Dog

Meeting your dog’s basic needs and maintaining his quality of life are the foundation of building a happy relationship with your pup. No matter how busy life gets, being consistent about caring for your dog is extremely important. American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen® Director and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, Mary Burch, Ph.D, offers the following tips on how to achieve the best possible relationship with your family pet.

Exercise

Providing Fido with daily exercise is very important. When dogs do not get enough exercise, they can become bored and lethargic, or even hyper and wound up. The lack of exercise is at the root of many canine behavior problems.

Play Time

Play time translates to spending quality time with your pup. Dogs need to have daily interactions with their humans, and even though the sessions may be short, it goes a long way to building a strong bond with your dog.

Training

Spending time training your dog builds a bond that lasts a lifetime. You learn how to communicate with your pup during training. It also gives your dog more freedom because you can feel confident taking him anywhere with you and know that he will be easy to manage.
