As previously reported, an overreaching and problematic animal ordinance is under consideration by the Montgomery City Council. The City Council did not take action on the ordinance at its April 5, 2022, meeting, but may take it up at its next meeting, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
Because city offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday, April 15, the usual amount of time concerned residents have to contact officials is shortened. The American Kennel Club (AKC) encourages all concerned animal owners in Montgomery to contact city council members today to express opposition to the proposal as introduced.

Please note that the agenda for the April 19 City Council meeting has not yet been made available. It is possible that the ordinance has been or will be amended.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
- Contact the mayor and city council members to respectfully state your concerns and opposition to the proposed animal ordinance.
- Request a copy of any amendments that have been made or that are proposed to be made to it. Ask your elected representative for this information or contact the City Clerk’s office at 334-625-2195.
- If amendments to the ordinance are forthcoming, ask city council members to provide time for constituents to fully review and discuss any amendments with their elected officials prior to a vote being held.
- Attend the City Council meeting on April 19, 2022 to voice opposition to problematic sections of the proposed ordinance. For additional meeting information and to learn how to sign up to be recognized to speak, contact the City Clerk’s office at 334-625-2195.
