An extremely problematic proposed animal ordinance that would trample the due process rights of animal owners, require licensing and inspection of every person who sells or transfers a dog or cat, and that contains numerous additional overreaching provisions has been carried over to the December 21, 2022, Parish Council meeting.  It is unclear if an amended version of the ordinance will be presented at the meeting.

Continued Action Needed:

Parish residents are urged to continue contacting Parish Council members to respectfully express concerns. Ask them to work with their constituent dog owners, animal welfare organizations such as the American Kennel Club, and agricultural and sportsmen’s organizations to draft reasonable legislation that will effectively protect animals and respect the rights of responsible owners.
