GCHS CH Bramblebush Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, an Irish Setter known as “Declan,” was named Best in Show at the December 17 AKC National Owner-Handled Series (NOHS) Finals. Judge Dominic Palleschi Carota awarded the crown to the dog during the event, held during the AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin in Orlando, Florida.

Cheryl L. Stiehl DVM owns and handles “Declan,” whom she bred with Craig Larson. Reserve Best in Show went to GCHS CH Myla’s No Tan Lines, a Siberian Husky known as “Natalie” who is owned by Marie Falconer and bred by Marie Ann Falconer, Dr. Thomas M. Davies, and Harry Smith III.

In total, 827 dogs were entered in this year’s NOHS, representing 200 different breeds or varieties. From that number, the leading 10 owner-handled dogs (as well as ties) were then invited to take part in the 2022 Finals.

Guy Fisher, Manager, Club Development, enthuses, “We’re thrilled to congratulate this year’s winner of the AKC National Owner-Handled Series Finals. NOHS is a wonderful celebration of the skill and dedication of each owner-handler. It was a very exciting competition.”

Group Winners

After each winning their AKC NOHS Best of Breed competitions, the dogs below went on to triumph in their respective groups. They then competed for AKC NOHS Best in Show. The dogs were:

Sporting: GCHS CH Bramblebush Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, an Irish Setter known as “Declan,” owned and bred by Cheryl L. Stiehl DVM & Craig Larson.

Hound: GCHS DC Baha Bahrain Storm MC, a Saluki known as “Flash,” owned by Dr. Caroline Coile and bred by Betsy Cummings, Jamey Lambert, Caroline Coile.

Working: GCHS CH Myla’s No Tan Lines, a Siberian Husky known as “Natalie,” owned by Marie Falconer and bred by Marie Ann Falconer, Dr. Thomas M. Davies, Harry Smith III.

Terrier: GCHB CH Wyrlake Foxhollow Knightfall, a Wire Fox Terrier known as “Simon,” owned by Dr. Heaton, J. Carlson, S. Carter, C. Schlagel and bred by Amy Rodrigues, Susan Carter, Andrew DiGiorgio.

Toy: GCHS CH Dreamville King’s Ransom, a Pekingese known as “Ramsey,” owned by Kay Canaan & Lori Stephen and bred by Dr. Raymundo W. Lo.

Non-Sporting: GCHG CH Barbary’s Reigning Royalty CGCA TKN, a Chow Chow known as “Quin,” owned by Ralph Silva and bred by Barbara D. Becker.

Herding: GCHS CH Blue Elks Missing Piece TKN, a Miniature American Shepherd known as “Puzzle,” owned by Allyson Senek & Gary Senek and bred by Allyson Senek.
