Speed was the name of the game at the 2022 AKC Fast CAT Invitational. In conjunction with the AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin, the event took place between December 13 and December 17 in Orlando, Florida.
For this—the third AKC Fast CAT Invitational—the top five of the fastest representatives of each dog breed, based on AKC Fast Coursing Ability Tests (Fast CAT) ratings, were invited to compete. In total, more than 380 dogs from across America, representatives of 177 breeds (including mixed breeds), competed.
Each dog ran twice across three days’ worth of preliminary runs. They participated in two different divisions: Pure Speed and Speed of the Breed. The Pure Speed division acknowledged the top 10 quickest competitors (according to height class) based on how fast they ran. The Speed of the Breed division acknowledged the top 10 dogs who ran the quickest over their breed’s average speed. The top dog in the Pure Speed division was named the 2022 Pure Speed Champion, while the Speed of the Breed division’s top dog was named the 2022 Speed of the Breed Champion.
