On Friday March 1, 2024, the West Virginia Senate passed a simple resolution declaring May 1, 2024, as Purebred Dog Day in West Virginia.

AKC encourages those who reside or participate in AKC events in West Virginia to contact sponsor Senator Mike Caputo and cosponsors Senator Robert Plymale and Senator Mike Woelfel and thank them for their support of the legacy and future of purebred dogs (Please click on each Senators name for a link to contact them).

Sponsored by Senator Mike Caputo at the request of Adrianne Dering of the Mountaineer Kennel Club, Senate Resolution 60 recognizes the dedicated individuals in West Virginia who breed dogs to develop unique, predictable characteristics that enable dogs to excel in a wide range of beneficial areas.  It also recognizes the “benefits and contributions” of purebred dogs and discusses their importance to society, history, and culture.

AKC Government Relations congratulates and thanks Ms. Dering for this public recognition of Purebred Dog Day in West Virginia.
