Today during its work session, the Maine Joint Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife members considered testimony on LD 1265.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) had issued an alert and testified expressing opposition to the bill, as introduced.  Although the title of the bill states it is intended to control the hunting of coyotes, the bill would have negatively impacted all hunting dogs.  After deliberation, the committee voted unanimously that LD 1265 ought not to pass.

The AKC is grateful to the Joint Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for its thoughtful review of all the testimony received and to the Maine sportsmen, women and residents who contacted the committee to express concerns.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:  AKC encourages those who took action to now contact the committee at IFW@legislature.maine.gov and thank them for voting “ought not to pass” on LD 1265.
