The American Kennel Club (AKC) and the New Hampshire Dogs Owners of the Granite State (NH DOGS) have been notified by the Chair of the House Environment and Agriculture Committee that the public hearing on HB 1102 will NOT occur on January 16, 2024, as originally planned. It will be rescheduled to a future date.
AKC clubs and NH DOGS are collaborating in strong opposition to HB 1102 which describes brachycephaly as a “birth deformity that causes suffering” and would CRIMINALIZE the sale and breeding of brachycephalic dogs and any dog that could be claimed to have a birth deformity. Details regarding the serious negative consequences of HB 1102 were detailed in an AKC alert issued last week. AKC will continue to monitor the committee hearing schedule and provide timely updates.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
All breeders, owners, and residents, along with all AKC-affiliated clubs in New Hampshire and all national breed parent clubs, are strongly encouraged to finalize statements in opposition to HB 1102. Identify New Hampshire residents in your networks and continue to inform them about the dangers of HB 1102 and when action is needed.
FOR MORE INFORMATION:
AKC and NH DOGS strongly encourage you to join in the fight against this radical legislation. For more information on HB 1102 or how you can help in the fight against it, contact AKC Government Relations at doglaw@akc.org or NH DOGS at dogs.nh@gmail.com.
