The Bakersfield City Council removed two items from their agenda that were scheduled for a first reading. These proposals would have amended existing ordinance and added new language to the city’s animal ordinances.

After removal from the council’s consent agenda, the items were referred to a subcommittee where the proposals will be open for additional discussion. GR wants to thank all the concerned residents who contacted or addressed the city council to express their disagreement with the proposals as they were written.  Your actions have made a difference!

The American Kennel Club’s Government Relations Department had conversations with the city attorney’s office on the matter and worked with local dog fanciers and other concerned residents to stop these overreaching and harmful proposals. GR will continue to monitor the situation and stay in contact with local resident to offer additional comment on any changes or new proposals, if needed.
