Dear AKC Club Officers and Delegates,

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we recognize that many of your clubs have had to make significant sacrifices, including cancelling the shows and events that you rely on for your viability. We want to assist you in every way possible.

We have received a number of inquiries about whether clubs can obtain federal relief to help offset losses.

The attached document, provided by our federal advocate, Michael Williams provides a summary overview of the recently-passed federal CARES(Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security)/ Paycheck Protection Program. The majority of relief programs for non-profit organizations are aimed at those registered as federal tax-exempt 501 (c) 3 charities.

Some other assistance may be available in the form of tax relief and Small Business Administration Loans to as-yet-undefined “private non-profit” organizations. Details and guidance are still being ironed out by administrators.

For reference, we have also included a chart of common organizational structures of AKC Clubs, prepared originally for the AKC Political Action Committee.

Congress is currently working on a phase 4 COVID-19 relief package that may provide more clarity and assistance for other types of non-profit organizations.

Please be assured we will continue to investigate, communicate, and advocate for you, the future of our clubs, and the future of our wonderful purebred dogs.

Sincerely,
