The Oregon Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on Senate Bill 723 on Thursday, February 28, at 8:30 a.m. As introduced, SB 723 will prohibit events or contests involving birds and other wildlife, which would have affected field trials and hunt testing involving dogs. The hearing on Thursday will only consider amendments that will remove the vague language that could affect dog events and focus the bill on hunting contests for coyotes.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) wants to thank all those who previously contacted the legislature regarding this bill.  While we appreciate the amendments, we encourage concerned dog owners to contact the committee to ensure that the new law is specifically amended so that it does not affect hunting and field trials.

Comments to the Senate Judiciary Committee may be emailed to sjud.exhibits@oregonlegislature.gov.
