Yesterday evening, the Shamong Township (NJ) Committee unanimously tabled proposed changes to the Township’s animal ordinances, which included future prohibitions on kennels and breeders with five or more intact females, breeding and ownership restrictions, and a ban on retail sales at pet stores. The American Kennel Club (AKC) strongly opposed the proposal.
The American Kennel Club congratulates the many Shamong fanciers, enthusiasts, and other concerned residents who expressed their sincere concerns with the overreaching proposal. The AKC looks forward to helping them, Shamong’s leadership, and other stakeholders move forward in crafting reasonable, citizen-driven legislative solutions for the Township.
AKC’s Government Relations Department (AKC GR) will continue to provide updates on Shamong, and all pending New Jersey legislation, as developments warrant. For more information, contact AKC GR at doglaw@akc.org.
