The New York Assembly and Senate continue to advance bills that would limit pet choice and restrict pet stores to only showcasing dogs from rescues that are not affiliated with breeders.

Even if you would not personally source to a pet store, it is critical that New York lawmakers understand that pet choice should not be limited.  It will force pet stores to remove consumer protection and only provide dogs from unregulated sources.

It will also reduce the average person’s access and ability to choose a pet with the predictable type, mandated care, and substantiated health background that come with purebred pets from regulated sources.  Individuals who lack the resources or do not have access to private hobby breeders will be the most directly impacted. View AKC’s previous alert and visit www.akcgr.org/petchoice for talking points and more information.
