Today, the Massachusetts Senate agreed to the minor technical changes made to Nero’s Law by the House last week.  Now, HB 4431 has been sent to Governor Baker’s desk for consideration.  He has ten days to sign the bill, veto it, or return it to the Legislature requesting changes.

The bill allows emergency care and transportation for a police dog injured in the line of duty, while ensuring ambulance use remains a priority for human transport.

Massachusetts residents are urged to contact the Governor’s office requesting he sign “Nero’s Law” into law.  Using this form, select the “comment” button and then fill out the required fields for your name and contact information.  In the “message box”, share with the Governor why he ought to support police K9s by signing HB 4431.

AKC GR will continue providing updates on Nero’s Law.  For more information on this or other legislative issues in Massachusetts, contact AKC GR at 919-816-3720 or doglaw@akc.org; or the Massachusetts Federation of Dog Clubs and Responsible Dog Owners at info@massfeddogs.org.
