The Iowa State Legislature adjourned on Friday evening for the year and once again no legislation that would negatively impact breeders and dog owners was passed.
For the past several years, legislation has been introduced that would have further regulated those who maintain at least four intact dogs and receive any kind of consideration for breeding or transferring even one dog.
This year, after hearing from numerous breeders and dog owners in opposition, the legislature significantly amended the bill. However, the bill in its amended form was not ultimately considered.
The AKC thanks the numerous breeders and clubs in Iowa who worked tirelessly to educate their legislators on the truth about responsible breeders and the positive impact they have on their dogs and on Iowa. AKC will continue to work in Iowa to ensure the rights of responsible breeders and the welfare of dogs are protected in the state.
