The American Kennel Club has just learned that the Fort Smith Board of Directors will consider proposed revisions to the city’s animal ordinance TOMORROW, March 21, 2023.  Among other problematic provisions, the proposal includes mandatory spay/neuter of all dogs based on conflicting circumstances;  mandatory spay/neuter of every dog impounded for any reason; a requirement for both business licensing and $150/year kennel licensing by persons with more than four dogs aged five months or older; and increasing the cost of a breeder license to $1,000/year.

Residents are urged to immediately contact Board members to express their opposition to this proposal, and to ask them to confer with animal owners in the city regarding a more reasonable proposal.
