AKC Government Relations has been notified by an Aurora city official that action on the animal ordinance proposal has been postponed. In addition, the city is seeking further public input on the proposal.

The proposal includes limiting ownership to three dogs of any age, except for one litter whelped on the premises, and removing the fancier’s permit that allowed hobbyists and exhibitors to own more dogs.

Read AKC’s previous legislative alert for more information on this proposal.

AKC appreciates the city notifying us of the hearing postponement, and their expressed desire for more public input.  Those who reside or participate in dog events in Aurora are strongly encouraged to provide written feedback to the city council at animalordinance@auroragov.org.

AKC Government Relations and the Colorado Federation of Dog Clubs continue to closely monitor this proposal and communicate our concerns with the city.
