The Palm Springs City Council will consider a proposed ordinance at their meeting on Thurs., Feb. 27, 2020, that will severely restrict all breeding of dogs and cats within the city limits. The proposal attempts to eliminate the “backyard breeder” in a misguided attempt to reduce pet populations. The proposal will also prevent the return of lost animals to their legitimate owners and will increase existing fees for ownership and breeding, in addition to creating new fees.

For more details and information on exactly how this bill would impact dog owners, read the proposal here: Breeding Restrictions.

The American Kennel Club’s Government Relations department urges anyone with an interest in this issue to contact the city council and express their opposition to this unnecessary and overreaching proposal. To read AKC’s letter to the Palm Spring City Council, click here.
