Over the past three years, the AKC Education Department redesigned seven courses for AKC Canine College from the “ABCs of Dog Breeding” series.
These redesigned courses provide a more interactive, visual and user-friendly experience, as well as provide updated information. Written in collaboration with Dr. Claudia Waller Orlandi Ph.D., this series focuses on the art and science of breeding.
With the intent to provide a home study course for dog breeders, each course is self-paced and offered on AKC Canine College at no cost to the learner.
Redesigned courses include ABCs of Canine Anatomy, ABCs of Dog Breeding: Pedigree, ABCs of Dog Breeding, Breeding Systems, ABCs of Dog Breeding, Selection, ABCs of Dog Breeding: Kennel Blindness, ABCs of Dog Breeding: Genetic Defects, and ABCs of Dog Breeding- Canine Genetics.
During fall of 2020, in collaboration with the Theriogenology Foundation and AKC Canine Health Foundation, AKC Education began adding recorded webinars to AKC Canine College.
Highlighting important breeding topics, these webinars allow the learner to hear from leading industry experts from the comfort of home. Available webinars include the Canine Breeder Excellence Seminar Series, Ovulation Timing in the Bitch, Interpreting Estrous in a Bitch, Neonatal Care- Starting and Staying Healthy, Canine Brucellosis, Perils and Pitfalls of Progesterone Testing, How Studly is your Stud, and C-Sections to Maximize Your Breeding Program.
Additionally, AKC’s Disease and Sanitation course was released this year. This course was designed as a self-paced program for pet owners and pet industry professionals. It covers everything from disease symptoms to prevention strategies for diseases impacting dogs, and more!
More information about these courses can be found on AKC Canine College.
