AKC Recognizes Temperament Test Title

Beginning Jan 2, 2018 AKC will recognize a new Temperament Test (TT) title as awarded by the American Temperament Test Society (ATTS).  The ATTS provides a uniform temperament evaluation open to all dogs over 18 months of age. The test involves ten components which test for behavior toward strangers, reaction to sudden auditory and visual stimuli, unusual footing, and threatening stranger. This is a pass/fail test. Should a dog show panic, strong avoidance without recovery or unprovoked aggression, the dog will fail.

The AKC TT title is handled thru the Parent Club Performance Events Titling Program and must be requested by a breed Parent Club. Owners of eligible breeds seeking to have a TT title must apply and provide documentation that their dog has passed the ATTS test. All dogs must be AKC registered or listed in the Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) program.

Eligible Breed(s) to date: American Staffordshire Terrier

If your Club would like to have your breed considered for this title, please contact the Performance Events Department at PerformanceEvents@akc.org or 919-816-3595.
