Step-by-Step Ordering Instructions

It only takes a moment to Create an Account and Login to the AKC Store. Once Logged In, click on Pedigrees/Reports in the AKC Reports section. Click on the type of pedigree desired and proceed to the ordering page where you can select any dog in our online database and order its pedigree. Within minutes, the pedigree will be created and placed in your wagon, ready for purchase and viewing online.

To add a pedigree, awards record, or other dog-specific product, you must login to the online store as usual. When you enter the online store, you will notice a box on the left with several options for online reports. When you select one of these categories, you will be taken to a page with several types of reports. When you select a report, a popup window will open and you will use this to login. After you have logged in, another popup will open which you can use to select a dog for the first time. After you have selected your first dog, this window will not open again. If you closed the window before selecting a dog, you can open the window again by clicking on the text link “Select A Dog.” Use the box to find the dog for which you are searching.

If you do not have the number, enter the breed and the exact spelling of the name. Click on “Search.” This may bring up multiple dogs. Select the dog you want.

After selecting the initial dog, you can then perform the search using the dog selector that appears on the top of the reports page. You now have the option to use the selected dog for all reports, or you can use it only for the current report. If you do not select use this dog for all reports, the dog will revert back to the previous one after you order a report.

In the wagon, there are three sections. The first, “Products Currently Being Created” is where the reports are first listed. It usually takes about fifteen minutes for a report to be created once it is added to the shopping cart.

The second section, “Products Ready for Purchase” is where you pay for the item. When the report moves to here, click on check out and follow the instructions for using your credit card. If the card is accepted, you will be given a conformation page. You should print this, as it is your receipt and if a problem occurs, the order number on this page is what we use to track the purchase. If you selected a hardcopy pedigree, double check the address before confirming the order. Pedigrees are not forwarded if addresses are incorrect, they are returned.

The third section, “Products Available for Viewing, Printing, and Saving” is where items are listed after purchased.

Details of an Online Pedigree

  • If a date is shown after a dog’s registration number (ex: 09-95), this is the month and year of the issue of the Stud Book Register in which the particulars of the dog’s first breeding experience are recorded. It should not be confused with the dog’s date of birth. The Stud Book Register contains the pedigree (sire and dam) of a dog that has been used at stud or a bitch that has whelped a litter for the first time.
  • A dog’s name can appear in three different colors:
    • Top Kennel’s Ember – A name in Blue means that the dog is AKC registered.
    • Ch Top Kennel’s Ember – A name in Red means that the dog is AKC registered and has earned an AKC title.
    • Top Kennel’s Ember – A name in Black means that the dog is either a Foreign registered dog or a Non-AKC registered dog (not in sample).
  • In the sample, Ch TopKennel’s Aristocrat has an OFA certification. Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) is an organization, established in 1966, that developed and maintains a registry of hip dysplasia in dogs. Dogs with OFA numbers are rated and certified free of canine hip dysplasia. This rating applies for the life of the dog.
    • OFA26A – is for hip certification, 26 is the dog’s age in months when certfied, and the A is the rating (E=excellent, G = good, F=fair).
  • In the sample, TopKennel’s Lucky Boy has elbow certification. OFEL14 – is for elbow certification, 14 is the dog’s age in months when certified. No rating is given for elbow, you either pass or fail.
  • In the sample, Ch TopKennel’s Rainbow Chaser has an OFA EYE certification. OFA maintains a database of screened eye diseases in dogs via reported eye examinations by canine eye specialists
  • (Not Available Online)
  • When you order a pedigree, this may appear in the place of a dog’s information. It only means that the data on that particular dog cannot be obtained online. If you decide to order an official hardcopy pedigree, the information will appear on that document.
  • In the sample, Ch TopKennel’s Aristocrat also has a DNA Profile number. You can check out the DNA Certification Program Page for more information on how you can obtain a Profile number for your dog.
