Dog Grooming Theory
Our mission is to cultivate a culture of safety, to educate beyond the shave-down, and to elevate the grooming industry. At the American Kennel Club we understand the importance of each breed’s standard and how it relates to coat type and care. Understanding coat type sets the Master Groomer apart and is the core of superior haircuts.
AKC Safety in the Salon for Groomers
Built to promote a culture of safety, the AKC S.A.F.E Grooming courses are the foundation of our grooming programs. We’re excited to expand the S.A.F.E curriculum in 2023. All Master Groomers must take the Safety in the Salon for Groomers course.

What Is a Master Groomer?
We believe a Master Groomer is an expert at the grooming table and shows proficiency in all coat types. Masters will need to submit a portfolio displaying evidence of each of the coat types. This is a fantastic opportunity to package your very best work as a celebration of your skills.
