In observance of the fifth anniversary (April 1) of AKC Canine Partners dogs in competition, we are honoring some of the first top achievers in the program.
AKC launched the Coursing Ability Test program on Feb. 1, 2011, and the first mixed-breed to earn a title in the fun sport did so less than a month later.
Charlie, a Whippet-Husky mix owned by Jan Curry of Columbia, KY, earned the Coursing Ability (CA) title on Feb. 25, 2011, at a test in Calhoun, GA, hosted by the Bluegrass Coursing Club and Greyhound Association of North Georgia.
Today, Charlie holds the most advanced title of Coursing Ability Excellent (CAX) for 25 passes of the test.
The Coursing Ability program allows all breeds, not just sight hounds, to experience the fun and excitement of Lure Coursing. Dogs chase a lure that is moved rapidly around a field on a pulley-system.
