Sue Dockery of Gray, TN, wrote us about her rescue dog, Jack, and how training saved their relationship and put them on the path to competition. Jack now holds titles in AKC Obedience and Rally.

“I adopted Jack from our local animal shelter in 2010. He was a very wild dog; he was excited to be out in the world. I had to get with a trainer to help me, and it was like training was his thing. He learned quickly and we both loved the work. We went on to compete.”

Jack earned the highest title in AKC Rally – the Rally Advanced Excellent title – on March 21, 2015, at the Dog Obedience Club of Greenville (SC) trial.

He also has won the AKC Obedience title of Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) and is working on the most advanced Utility title.

“Jack was just a dog that needed a job,” Sue said.

Jack competes in AKC sports through the AKC Canine Partners program for all dogs, including mixed-breeds and rescues.
