Brittany adopted Sammy from the Humane Society of Northeast Iowa in the summer 2013.
“Although sensitive, Sammy has a high drive and passion for learning,” Brittany said. “Her shy nature is always overtaken by her will to learn and compete.”
Training helped Sammy gain confidence. Sammy now competes regularly in obedience, rally, agility, and barn hunt. She is also currently in training for tracking and Nosework. Sammy will be making her debut in the highest level of AKC Obedience classes – Utility – later this month.
She is also a certified therapy dog and makes weekly therapy visits to a nursing facility. She will soon start a therapy dog summer reading program. She recently qualified for the AKC Therapy Dog Advanced title for making 100 therapy visits.
“To keep Sammy’s active mind and body busy, she continues to learn a variety of unique tricks and trains in multiple sports,” Brittany said. “Lure coursing and dock diving are just a few of the goals for Sammy’s future.”
Outside of training, Sammy enjoys kayaking, swimming, and hiking with Brittany.
Sammy is a member of the AKC Canine Partners programs for all dogs, including mixed-breeds and rescues.
