Many dogs were developed to pull heavy loads to assist their owners. Today, many dogs enjoy the sport of weight pull, which enables dogs to put on a special harness and pull a cart that is loaded with weight, often bags of dog food.
Chase, a mixed-breed dog, loves the sport and shows his good form above, in this photograph submitted by his owner Amy Lawson of Spring Valley, MN. Six-year-old Chase, whose AKC formal name is Heaven Sent Chase THD, also is a therapy dog and holds the AKC Therapy Dog title through the AKC Canine Partners program for all dogs.
Several AKC national and regional breed clubs host weight pulls, and some events are open to all breeds, including mixed-breeds.
