Gulf Coast German Shorthaired Pointer Club Hunt Test

March 1-2, 2008 - Near San Antonio, Tex.

Bonnie Hidalgo, senior executive field representative

The Gulf Coast German Shorthaired Pointer Club held two hunt tests near San Antonio, Tex., the weekend of March 1-2. The grounds at Cibolo, Tex., are under lease by the San Antonio GSPC, which allows other clubs to run events there for a nominal fee. These grounds were more than adequate in size for a good hunt test course.

The Gulf Coast Club runs a very fine Hunt Test. The group, led by Hunt Test Chairperson, Kay Walker and Secretary Pat Dunn, are to be commended for an excellent job. Serving as committee members were James Dunn, Randy Walker, Jim Perrin and Nancy Ward. Several other members pitched in to make the event run smoothly.

The most unique aspect of this Hunt Test was the fact that the Master and Senior test levels were run as "shoot on course." There were enough sets of gunners to alternate in such a manner that there were gunners walking every brace. This lent a more realistic hunting scenario to the event.

The club and the judges it selected were up-to-date on the rule changes that went into effect Jan. 1, 2008. Judging all levels on Saturday were Rosemary Carlson of Moore, Okla., and Ron Metz of Lubbock, Tex. Sunday's judges, serving at all three levels were Kier Albert of Benbrook, Tex., and Ray Mullen from Garland, Tex.
