Simon was wandering the roads of Georgia when animal control picked him up and took him to the county shelter. The Aussie-mix was getting along in years and was in bad shape. The chances were slim that he would be adopted before his time was up, but Country Livin’ Pet Rescue pulled him out of the shelter and found him a wonderful new home. Today, Simon lives with Karen and Fred Bachelle of South Windsor, CT. He has a great life and has even undergone training and earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen title with his fancy new name: Country Livin’ Simon Gryffin CGC. He shows that older dogs can learn new tricks and also make wonderful choices as companions. Karen tells his story:
With the help of Country Livin’ Pet Rescue, a pitiful looking, elderly stray dog from a high kill shelter in Georgia traveled north in November 2014 to live with Karen and Fred Bachelle and their Australian Shepherds, Marcie and Jeter.
Renamed Simon, this magical old guy with a “can do” attitude has accomplished a lot in the past year in spite of considerable health and emotional issues.
He completed the AKC “My Dog Can Do That!” beginner agility course at the South Windsor Kennel Club’s match in May 2015.
In December 2015, Simon passed the AKC Canine Good Citizen test at the Tails U Win Training Center in Manchester, CT, becoming the sixth CGC titled dog from the Bachelle household.
Simon is registered with the AKC Canine Partners program as Country Livin’ Simon Gryffin CGC.
Simon’s age and health preclude him from competing in AKC shows and trials as Marcie and Jeter do, but he enjoys his family and friends, easy hikes, and long snoozes.
