“Surfing Dog Float” Breaks World Record at This Year’s Rose Parade

At this year’s Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., a float featuring surfing dogs set the world record for longest and heaviest float in Tournament of Roses Parade history.

The float, The Lucy Pet’s Gnarly Crankin’ K-9 Wave Maker, was 125 feet long and weighted 148,250 pounds, reports the laist.

A contributing factor to the massiveness of the float was the 90-foot, 8,000-gallon tank that allowed talented surfing dogs to catch a wave on parade day.

The surfing dogs could catch a wave and then were transported back to the start courtesy of a mini-cable car system.

These talented pups also wore life-jackets and surfed in a heated pool to ensure their safety. The dogs that were chosen to participate, including a Bulldog, Dachshund, and Golden Retriever, were part of a country-wide search for the best surfing dogs. Who even knew there were so many?!

In addition to setting the Guinness World Record, the dog-float also won the Extraordinaire Trophy for the most spectacular float.
