About Pop-ups and JavaScript

Our website and applications, including online accounts—use pop-up windows for key features such as adding dogs, displaying forms, or completing checkout. If your browser or security software blocks pop-ups, please allow them for our site to ensure everything works correctly.

We also rely on JavaScript to provide a smooth and interactive experience. Nearly all modern browsers support JavaScript by default, but if it has been disabled, certain features—or the AKC Shop—may not work properly.

Browser Plug-ins and Media

Modern browsers are designed to display most text, images, audio, and video without additional software. However, certain specialized files may require optional plug-ins or viewers. Most browsers automatically detect what’s needed and will prompt you to download it.

Currently, our site may include files that work best with the following free viewers or plug-ins:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader® – for PDF documents
  • Apple QuickTime® – for certain video or multimedia files

Note: Older plug-ins such as Flash Player® and Shockwave® are no longer supported by modern browsers and are not required.

Understanding My AKC Account Functions

A My AKC account is a free and easy way to manage all your information across AKC platforms with a single login, including online registrations, Breeder Toolkit, the AKC Shop, Canine College, and Marketplace. With just one account, you can log in across our platforms and access your dog and litter records, manage registrations and Marketplace listings, complete purchases, and enroll in Canine College courses—anywhere, anytime.

If you participate in programs like Breeder of Merit or Bred with H.E.A.R.T., your My AKC account is automatically connected to your breeder credentials. When you log in to register, your credentials will appear correctly on AKC paperwork, such as Litter Kits and Registration Certificates. Using the same account on Marketplace also ensures your breeder badges display on your listings and storefronts.

Once logged in, you can:

  • Manage your AKC-registered dogs
  • Track points and awards
  • Order pedigrees and certificates

Through Breeder Toolkit, you’ll also be able to:

  • Manage litters and breeding records
  • Complete puppy and litter registrations — including the transfer of prepaid puppies to their new owners
  • Download, print and sign registration applications from your electronic litter kits (ELK)
  • And much, much more!

By adding dogs to your account, you’ll have quick access to important details anytime — including registration numbers, microchip information (if applicable), and convenient ordering through the AKC Shop.

Creating Your AKC Account is Simple

  1. Navigate to the Sign In link in the upper-right corner of our website.
  2. At the bottom of the pop-up window, click Create Your AKC Account Now.
  3. Enter your first and last name (make sure your last name matches exactly as it appears on your dog registrations, including any hyphenations, suffixes, or other details).
  4. Provide your email address.
  5. Create a password that is at least 8 characters long and includes three of the following four:
    • An uppercase letter
    • A lowercase letter
    • A number
    • A symbol

Note: Each individual user should create one account per email address and include only one first name in the first name field.

Two Factor Authentication (TFA, 2FA, Account Verification)

Once you have created your account, you will be prompted to enter a Two-Factor Authentication (TFA) code. This added security step helps protect your account, even if your password becomes compromised and is now required for all logins.

This code will be sent to the email address associated with your online account from noreply@support.akc.org. If you do not see the code, please check your spam and other email filters, and ensure your email address is current and accessible, as password resets and verification codes will be sent to that email address.

When retrieving your verification code, you’ll need to remain on the AKC login page and avoid fully closing your browser or app, as doing so may generate a new code request. If using a mobile device, you will need to toggle between the AKC login page and your email application, without closing the AKC page to avoid regenerating a new code.

After entering your verification code, you may choose to remember your device if you are using a trusted personal computer or mobile device. For your security, we do not recommend selecting this option on shared or public devices. Some browsers will still require verification even if you have selected to remember your device, due to settings.

Browser & Verification Tips

Certain browser settings may require more frequent account verification, including:
• Clearing browser cookies
• Using private or incognito browsing
• Browsers configured to automatically delete cookies
• Switching browsers or devices

Important Update – Usernames and Email Addresses

As part of this TFA security enhancement, AKC accounts must now be accessed using an email address and password. Username-based logins are no longer compatible with the new authentication process. Customers who previously signed in using a username will need to transition to an email-based login to receive verification codes and successfully access their accounts. If you have not previously created an AKC account with an email address, please follow the instructions on this page and use the email address connected to your username. Your dog and litter records should automatically merge into this account.

Updating Your Account Email Address

  1. Click Sign In to log in to your account.
  2. Click on your name.
  3. Select My AKC.
  4. Go to Contact Management.
  5. Update your email address.

That’s it! Your records will stay linked to your account.

Note: If you need to update your email address, do not create a new My AKC account. Our system does not allow users to transfer currently or previously owned dogs between accounts, so customer service will need to manually complete this transfer. Updating your existing account email ensures all your dog and litter records remain linked and accessible.

Changing Your Account Password

  1. Click Sign In to log in to your account.
  2. Click on your name.
  3. Select My AKC.
  4. Go to Account Management.
  5. Under Manage Password, click on Change your Password.

Forgot Password?

  1. Click Sign In to log in to your account.
  2. In the Sign In pop-up window, click the Forgot Password? Link
  3. Enter your email address associated with your account and click Submit.
  4. If we have an account associated with that email address, you will receive an email with instructions and a link to reset your password.

Not sure if you have an account?

Providing an email address during registration does not automatically create a My AKC account on your behalf. You will still need to follow the steps to create an account and then add your registered dogs to it.

If you are unsure, you may either try to create a new account using your email address, or you may follow the instructions for a forgotten password. If we already have an account associated with your email address, you will receive a password reset email after clicking the Forgot Password? link.
