Yesterday, the DeKalb County, Georgia, Board of Commissioners again deferred consideration of a controversial dog ordinance that as currently written includes litter permits, sales restrictions, and incomplete consumer protections.

As noted by County Attorney Ernstes during yesterday’s meeting, a new version of the ordinance is being drafted, “that will look very different than the ordinance…on the agenda right now.”

The ordinance will next be considered by the Board’s County Operations Committee on February 4 and February 18, 2025, with the full Board of Commissioners scheduled to consider it at its February 25, 2025, meeting.

The American Kennel Club’s Government Relations Department (AKC GR) will continue to provide updates on DeKalb County as developments warrant, including when the new version of the proposal is available.  For more information, contact AKC GR at doglaw@akc.org.
