A problematic proposed dog ordinance in DeKalb County, Georgia—which, as currently worded, includes litter permits, litter limits, sales restrictions, and incomplete consumer protections—has been added to the Tuesday, January 28, 2025, agenda for the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners meeting.  As previously noted, County staff have reported that the ordinance is expected to be returned to the Board’s County Operations Committee for further consideration.  Nevertheless, the American Kennel Club (AKC) continues to urge County residents and those from surrounding communities to respectfully ask the Board of Commissioners to reject proposed ordinance 2024-0190 as currently worded.

AKC believes that the current version of the proposed ordinance, under consideration since February 2024, would negatively affect responsible dog owners and breeders in the county.  AKC is also concerned that the proposal would affect any county resident who might have future reason to transfer ownership of a pet, even by gift.
