Getting Licensed to Hold Scent Work

Is your club interested in holding Scent Work trials? First you must be licensed to do so. The process differs depending on whether your club is already an AKC-Licensed or Member Club, or new to the AKC. In either case, your club must have sufficient experience with the sport of Scent Work (with any organization) before becoming licensed.

Existing AKC Clubs

Any type of club (All Breed, Specialty, Obedience, Rally, Agility, or Performance) is eligible to add Scent Work to their licensing, as long as they can demonstrate sufficient experience amongst their membership. To do so, please complete and submit the form “Application for an Existing AKC Club to Become Licensed to Hold Scent Work.”

Clubs New to the AKC

If your club is new to the AKC, you will need to apply to become an AKC Scent Work club. Please see the document “New Scent Work Club Licensing Guidelines” for the instructions on how to do so. The required documents should be e-mailed to ScentWork@akc.org. Scent Work staff will review the paperwork for issues before forwarding to Club Relations for final review and approval.
