The American Kennel Club is hosting an art contest for students in grades K through college. The top winner in each category will receive a $50 Amazon gift card. Artwork will be on display at AKC Meet the Breeds in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania June 6 and 7, 2020.

About AKC Meet the Breeds

Attendees will be able to interact with almost 200 breeds of dogs in elaborately decorated booths with elements from the breeds’ history creatively displayed as well as opportunities to learn from experts about each breed in attendance.
There will also be numerous, fun demonstrations both days.

What grade levels can enter this contest?
The AKC Meet the Breeds Art Contest is open to all students from kindergarten through college.
When are entries due?
Entries are accepted beginning on February 19, 2020. All entries must be postmarked by May 1, 2020.
Can I turn in my art work after May 1, 2020?
Unfortunately, no late entries will be accepted.
What type of art will be accepted?
Art cannot be larger than 8.5″ x 11″. The picture can be created using drawing, painting, mixed media, digital art, or photography. The art must be an original picture (not copied from somewhere or someone else) and must be created by you.
Is there a theme?
The theme for this art contest is “Dogs in the City of Philadelphia.”

The art and entry form signed by a parent/legal guardian can be mailed to:

How will the art be judged?
The entries will be split into four grade level categories: K-5, 6-8, 9-12 and college.
Entries will be judged on creativity (40%), fit to “dog” theme (30%), and quality of picture (30%).
Each entry will be assigned a score based on the above criteria. The fifty pictures from each grade level category with the highest scores will be finalists and will be displayed at AKC Meet the Breeds® in Philadelphia on June 6 and 7, 2020.
The top scoring picture from each grade level category will be deemed the winner.
What is the prize?
All finalists and winners will have their art displayed at AKC Meet the Breeds® in Philadelphia on June 6 and 7, 2020.
All finalists will receive a ribbon. All winners will receive a ribbon and a $50 Amazon gift card.
How will I find out if I am a finalist/winner?
On or about May 11, 2020, AKC will send an email to the parent/legal guardian of the finalists and winners, notifying them. AKC will use the email address provided on the entry form. Each parent must acknowledge the message within 48 hours.
Where will my art be displayed?
Finalist art will be displayed at AKC Meet the Breeds® in Philadelphia on June 6 and 7, 2020.
