Dear Dog Trainer,

Thank you for your interest in applying to be an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator.

CGC Evaluators administer many exciting AKC Family Dog Programs including AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, AKC Community Canine, Urban CGC, AKC FIT DOG, AKC Trick Dog, and Virtual Home Manners.

Our streamlined application process is now handled through the AKC Canine College. You can go to this link to watch the videos of test in action, read the Evaluator Guides, complete your application, and pay the application fee.

Qualifications

If you have not taught classes (obedience, basic training) to the public for at least two (2) years, please check with us at cgc@akc.org before submitting your application to verify your qualifications for eligibility. The following minimum qualifications must be met to become a CGC Approved Evaluator:

  1.  Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Must have at least two (2) years of experience working with dog owners and their dogs in a professional or educational capacity (obedience instructor, etc.). This must include experience with both dogs AND owners. This may NOT include informally helping your friends, family, and neighbors with their dogs.
  3. Must have experience working with a variety of breeds/types of dogs (worked with dogs of different sizes, activity levels, etc.)
  4. Must not be currently suspended of AKC privileges.
