On March 23, the State of Washington declared certain businesses as “essential” as part of its Stay at Home, Stay Healthy initiative in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.
AKC appreciates that veterinary services and animal feed business have been considered essential to ensure the care of animals at this time.
The American Kennel Club has requested the State of Washington expand this to designate pet care businesses as essential. These businesses can and do provide care and boarding for animals owned by those who are employed in the numerous fields deemed essential.
We encourage those businesses and individuals affected by the governor’s order to contact the governor at business@mil.wa.gov and request that all critical pet service businesses remain open to serve pet owners during this crisis- particularly those who are working to keep the State of Washington operating at maximum efficiency.
