Although both Senate Bill 139, the crop/dock bill, and House Bill 198, a breeder regulation bill, were to be heard in committee this week, both bills have been removed from their respective agendas and we expect them to be significantly rewritten. Further, House Bill 198 is unlikely to move at all. Instead, the companion bill, Senate Bill 53 is likely to be the vehicle for any legislation addressing dog breeder licensing.  The AKC Government Relations Department thanks all those who have made phone calls, and sent letters, faxes and emails to their representatives – you have made a major impact!!!

What You Can Do:

  • Contact your representative in the Illinois General Assembly and Illinois State Senate and ask him or her to support legislation that protects the rights of responsible breeders and owners and to oppose legislation that imposes unfair burdens and restrictions on law abiding citizens. To find out who represents you in the Illinois State Legislature, select the address tab found at this link.

Remember to always be polite and respectful in all your communications! It does make a difference!
