A proposed ordinance that would have lifted restrictions on ownership of “pit bull” dogs in Sherwood, Arkansas, has been withdrawn. As a result of this action, Sherwood’s animal ordinance continues to prohibit the ownership of:
- Pit Bull Terriers
- Staffordshire Bull Terriers
- American Pit Bull Terriers
- American Staffordshire Terriers
- American Bull Dogs
- Mixed breed dogs with similar appearance and characteristics that display aggression towards people or other dogs.
Sherwood residents are urged to continue asking their city council members to enact breed-neutral dangerous dog laws. Click here for resources, analyses, and talking points on Breed Specific/Dangerous Dog Laws. Click here to view AKC’s July alert on the original Sherwood proposal.
