Yesterday, the New York Assembly Agriculture Committee approved a ban on “debarking”. A. 8551 now goes to the Assembly Codes Committee before being considered by the full Assembly.
In the Senate, its companion Senate Bill 3026 remains pending on the Senate floor.
As mentioned in previous alerts, S. 8252 and A. 8653 regulating those who sell more than 9 dogs a year are pending in the Assembly and Senate Agriculture Committees.
New York is not in session for the next two weeks, and lawmakers will be home in their districts. This is a great opportunity to reach out to your State Senator and Assemblymember and let them know your concerns with the hobby breeder proposal and debarking ban.
