The New York Senate will likely soon consider a bill that would provide new protections to dog-owning renters in the state seeking renters insurance.
New Yorkers are encouraged to contact their state senator today and ask them to support Senate Bill 364.
State law already prohibits insurance companies from canceling or denying policies or raising rates on homeowners insurance based solely on the breed of dog the policyholder chooses to own.
Senate Bill 364 would expand these same protections to those seeking renters insurance in the state. The bill recently passed the Senate Insurance Committee and is now eligible to be voted on by the full Senate.
AKC supports this bill, which further protects the rights of responsible dog owners, while still holding all dog owners accountable, regardless of the breed they choose to own.
