The New Jersey Assembly Commerce, Economic Development, and Agriculture Committee has voted to adopt a substitute version of Assembly Bill 4051, which impacts the state’s consumer protection laws for pet purchases and implements a statewide ban on the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits by pet shops.
After hearing testimony from several parties both opposed and in favor of the bill, the substitute bill was simply adopted by the Committee but not voted out by the Committee. No future Committee meeting on the bill has been set at this time.
As stated in a previous alert, the American Kennel Club (AKC) continues to oppose the bill and has continued to discussion our concerns with Committee Chair, Assemblyman William Spearman and the committee.
