The Nevada Senate Natural Resources Committee advanced Assembly Bill 487 that would ban pet stores from selling dogs and cats, in a hearing on April 9.
Currently, the bill also prohibits the sale or transfer of dogs or cats in public places and at swap meets, with certain exceptions for animal shelters and rescue organizations. The AKC thanks the Senate Natural Resources Committee for expressing a willingness to work with responsible dog owners to ensure responsible breeders are not unintentionally impacted by this transfer provision.
AKC remains concerned with the ban on the retail sale of dogs and cats in pet stores. See our previous alert.
AKC Government Relations will provide further updates on the legislation, and how you can help, when information becomes available.
