The American Kennel Club (AKC) is pleased to announce that the Barnstable, Massachusetts, Department of Animal Control’s proposed dog regulations have been amended in response to AKC’s November alert and comments subsequently received by the town.
The amended proposal:
- Clarifies Commercial Kennel versus Multiple Dog License definitions and requirements.
- Reverts to the annual May 15-September 15 prohibition on dogs on Designated Bathing Beaches.
- Adds a clause that allows town officials to close sections of beaches to dogs for endangered species protection.
AKC greatly appreciates the collaboration by Barnstable town officials to adopt these changes. Residents impacted are encouraged to review the amended proposal. Any remaining concerns must be communicated to the town by January 15, 2024, at MEA@town.barnstable.ma.us.
