The Iowa House Judiciary Committee has unanimously passed a bill updating Iowa’s dog ownership laws and requiring shelters to scan dogs for a microchip.

The bill, now renumbered as House File 2190, will soon be considered by the full House of Representatives. (Read AKC’s previous alert for more details on the bill).

AKC encourages Iowa dog owners to contact your State Representative in support of House File 2190.  Visit AKC’s Legislative Action Center at www.akcgr.org and click on the “Elected Officials” box on the home page.  There you can type in your address to get the name and contact information for your State Representative.

We thank all who took the time to contact the committee in support of this bill (previously HF 2016).  Your actions are making a difference!

AKC Government Relations will continue to monitor bills in Iowa impacting dogs.  For questions or more information, contact AKC GR at doglaw@akc.org.
