Yesterday, the Iowa House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed two important bills that will benefit responsible dog owners and home-based hobby breeders.
AKC Government Relations thanks all who took the time to contact their State Representatives. Your actions have made a difference!
The Senate must act quickly on these bills to ensure they continue to advance this year. Please contact Senate Leadership TODAY. Let them know you support these bills and ask that House Files 2190 and 2674 move forward to a subcommittee and to a full committee vote:
Sen. Amy Sinclair, President of the Senate: amy.sinclair@legis.iowa.gov
Sen. Mike Klimesh, Senate Majority Leader: mike.klimesh@legis.iowa.gov
Talking Points:
House File 2190 updates dog ownership laws and requires shelters to scan dogs for a microchip – helping reunite lost pets with their owners.
House File 2674 makes important changes to the state’s breeder laws to better differentiate between home-based and commercial operations, while still preserving the state’s ability to inspect when there is credible evidence of a violation.
See AKC’s previous alert for more information and talking points.
