An Illinois bill seeking in part to impose commercial standards on some home-based kennels and breeding programs has been pulled from consideration and will likely not move forward during the spring session.
As mentioned in previous alerts, the “one size fits all” standards in Senate Bill 2990 are geared toward large commercial facilities and fail to account for the many safe, responsible ways dogs are housed and managed in home-based and small breeding programs. We thank every club member and breeder who took the time to register your concerns on the breeder regulations portion of the bill. Your actions have made a difference for dogs and responsible home-based breeders in Illinois!
It is possible that the bill could be considered during a session later this year, and AKC Government Relations will continue to closely monitor and provide updates. For questions or more information, contact AKC Government Relations at doglaw@akc.org.
